|Title:||Photograph, Tintype; John Burns, "The Hero of Gettysburg."|
19th Century tintype photograph of John Burns. Although Mr. Burns had many paper Carte de Visite photographs printed after he gained fame as a civilian fighter at the Battle of Gettysburg, tintypes of the gentleman are rare.
John Burns lived in Bonneauville both before and after the Battle of Gettysburg. It was in Bonneauville that he died. It was at Civil War Capt. Jacob Miller's mortuary on Maple St. that and was prepared for burial. Hero Burns was then taken by horse drawn procession to Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg where he is interred.
