Acquisition No.: 2013-68
Title: Book; "Five Year Diary," 1945-1950.
Item History:

This book is less a diary than a running list of deaths and marriages in the small towns and rural areas 360 degrees around Bonneauville, PA. Kingsdale, Irishtown, Cashtown, Gettysburg, Hanover, McSherrystown, Littlestown, New Oxford, Abbottstown, East Berlin, and Spring Grove are mentioned. The diary was kept by: Anna J. Brown, 229 South St., Hanover, PA.

The deaths read somewhat morbidly: Killed by tractor, auto accident, missing in action, electrocuted, drowned in quarry, died suddenly. The cycle of life goes on. Odd is the fact that I, Karl Orndorff, should find this diary on the far side of our western mountains, at a monthly mud auction in Marion, PA. (A critical town that Robert E. Lee passed through during his escape from the Battle of Gettysburg). The book was found in a dilapidated wooden box of rusting tools and was the only such paper in the box or in any other box lot near it.
