Acquisition No.: 2000-03
Title: Photograph; 15 Maple St., Jacob Miller's Funeral Parlor.
Item History: Photo taken about 1948 when Sylvester and Henrietta Seymore purchased what had once been Jacob Miller's Funeral Parlor. This structure and those around it were built by Captain Jacob Miller after his return from the Civil War. Mr. Miller was a carpenter, furniture and casket maker, undertaker and farmer. The bottom floor of this building was the funeral parlor. The upstairs was the Miller's home. The famous John Burns, "Hero of Gettysburg," was prepared for burial here. Mr. Miller's furniture and casket factory was located directly across Maple Street from this brick structure. Empty, unused and deteriorating, the clapboard sided building still stands today.
