This CDV Photograph was part of a package of eleven similar pictures of other individuals, purchased as a lot at auction. All photos were back-marked: "H. J. Harman, Photographer, York Springs, Adams CO., Pennsylvania." On the back of this photo, handwritten in pencil, is the name "John Burns".

Posing with his beefy hand on a bible, wearing his characteristic top hat, a jacket, and vest with a double row of buttons, is the typical Burns. Close set eyes and deep nasolabial folds (smile lines) are distinguishing facial features of The Hero of Gettysburg.
